Soča Trout [Salmo marmoratus], the autochthonous fish from the Soča River, are a magnet for fishermen and seekers of culinary delights, who will be rewarded in the local restaurants.

Trout is a popular dish in the Soča Valley, which can be found on the menus of all good local inns.

The fish that usually smells good on the plate, however, is a brown trout or rainbow trout, because the real Soča trout is a protected fish. It is only served in a few places as a speciality and is therefore appropriately more expensive than the regular, but also very tasty, trout.
